As an award-winning artist, Charity Dakin’s creativity has always been clear. “I’ve been making art since I could hold a crayon,” she recalls. “The world amazed me and I drew it.” Born on Canada’s West Coast, the daughter of a dairy farmer and the oldest of five children, she certainly was not born into the art establishment. Without a formal art education her resolve to pursue her artistic ambition was firm and in 2004 she debuted at the Harvest of Arts Show and Sale hosted by the NAIT Campus in Fairview, Alberta. The college purchased Charity’s work as part of their permanent collection, proving her to be a promising emerging artist.
Since then her passion has continued to be evident in many of her paintings and she strives to use her skills for the preservation of historic culture, wilderness, and the communities who live there. She devotes much of her time to working with other artists, sharing ideas and working cooperatively to produce shows and promote the arts in her community. Charity’s work is now represented in private and public collections internationally.
Charity has also contributed to numerous mural projects in conjunction with Mural Mosaic (www.muralmosaic.com) including the Alberta/Saskatchewan Centennial Mural “Buffalo Twins”, presented to Queen Elizabeth during the Royal Centennial visit in 2005, Earth’s Treasure Chest, Le Cadeau Du Cheval, and most recently, KUNAMOKST which was featured at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver this year.
Now living in Athabasca, AB, Charity is currently working on commissions as well as building a new collection for future shows. Her work has been juried into and will be available at the 2010 Calgary Stampede Western Art Gallery and Western Art Auction, July 9-18.
