Helena is an Edmonton Artist born in Poland. Her parents immigrated in 1959, wanting freedom of religion and better opportunities for their children. Certified in 1976 as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, Helena has worked full time in progressively challenging positions. Her earliest memories include a desire and interest in art. She dreamed of having beautiful colors and supplies to work with. Alas, her parents put her in Piano lessons! As a young adult she worked in a framing store where she fell in love with the watercolor medium.
She is constantly persuing her interest through community courses. She is currently enrolled in the Certificate program at the University of Alberta. As a member of SWCA and Edmonton Art Club there are many opportunities to interact with other local artists and endless books to explore.
In the late 1990ís she was able to dedicate two years exclusively to art. Now she balances this passion with part time employment in the Laboratory. Helena tackles most subjects that capture her interest but is currently enthralled with painting children at play. She also teaches watercolor for Metro Continuing Education in Edmonton. (EPSB/ Class magazine).
Helenaís paintings are in private collections in Japan, Germany and throughout western Canada. Her work can be seen at Johnson Gallery, Candler Gallery (Camrose) as well as varied transient venues. She also has a spring and fall show with the Highlevel Potters and Friend at the Strathcona community league in Edmonoton. Why does she paint in this age of plentiful inexpensive imagery? Because painting is about really about seeing and I would be incomplete without it. Itís my way to share a piece of my soul with someone else.
