Alberta Bound - Lynn Lecorre Opens July 4th - July 29th
Alberta Bound
As a roving landscape painter, my artistic journey is deeply rooted in Alberta. Over decades, my career has taken me across this province. Alberta’s richly diverse landscapes inspired my artistic journey as I roamed from central Alberta to Jasper in the Rocky Mountains, north to High Level and Grande Prairie, then south to Red Deer. I have now come full circle back to my hometown in St. Albert. As for exploring all the other natural wonders of this province – I love a road trip!
In every local (or road trip), I have explored Alberta’s diverse landscapes through ‘plein air’ painting to capture the immediacy of light and atmosphere. Experiencing the wonders of hoodoos, coulees, rocky peaks, farmed fields, winding rivers, rugged forests and stormy skies, my goal is to capture the diversity of Alberta’s geological wonders that continually inspire me.
Often the landscape is the vehicle to document how the light enhances the colours of the land, as well as the richly formed shapes and textures. I strive to capture the relationship of colour and space through various compositions and formats while maintaining a painterly approach.
My work reveals a connection to place. The process starts with an ‘ah inspired’ setting; then finding and sketching the perfect composition of distant vista’s, big skies, impending weather, rhythmical trees or rich foreground textures. I immerse myself in the environment and start the preliminary painting to capture the light and forms before the sky shifts or the weather changes. The final evolution is often completed in the studio. This interplay of observation and interpretation continuously challenges and feeds my creative expression. My artistic practice is shaped by the land, viewed as a place of beauty, diversity and inspiration. Nature is my muse. Alberta is my territory
